Welcome to the Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Advocate Christ Medical Center.

The primary mission of our department is to provide state-of-the-art emergency care, provided to our patients with compassion and respect. We value the diversity of our medical staff, our patients, and the communities we serve.

The 2 goals of the residency are (1) to provide great training and (2) to make the 3 year experience enjoyable for our residents. Established in 1977, our residency program has a long tradition of training superior emergency physicians, well prepared to practice in any environment.

Advocate Christ Medical Center/Hope Children’s Hospital is a Level I Trauma Center, Pediatric Critical Care Facility and a tertiary referral center for pediatrics, pediatric and adult cardiology/cardiothoracic surgery, orthopedics and invasive neurologic procedures. The Emergency Department treats over 95,000 patients per year. We are proud of the broad and high acuity clinical training our residents receive. With 136 hours of EM faculty coverage per day, all resident cases are supervised by attending EM physicians. We are most fortunate to have a diverse faculty providing outstanding bedside teaching for our residents. Our Simulation Learning Center is a risk-free environment that allows residents to perform supervised practice of invasive procedures and low frequency, high acuity clinical scenarios. Established in 1995, our Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship Program has provided our residents exceptional education in ultrasound applications at the bedside. Our research program gives resident physicians the opportunity to translate clinical questions into research projects, and to present their results at national and international scientific assemblies.

All the members of the residency program leadership team are strong resident advocates. We listen and respond thoughtfully to residents’ ideas and concerns. We strive to create a supportive environment that enables residents to reach their fullest potential. The department's residents and faculty are close knit, believing, the better the faculty learns a resident's abilities, the faster the individual resident can master the art and science of Emergency Medicine. The camaraderie among the residents produces life-long friends. When our graduates reminisce about their residency experience, they say their training was filled with fond memories and amazing tales, all underscored by excellence.
