Life before Medical School: In the year between college and medical school, he took part in a Travelers’ Summer Research Fellowship at the Medical College of Cornell and taught English as a second language to disadvantaged Spanish Americans
Medical School: University of Illinois-Chicago College of Medicine; President of LaRaza Medical Student Association, medical Spanish course instructor, participated in student free clinic in Chicago and summer volunteer work in Guadalajara, Mexico, and research: stem cell transplants, consultation in emergency medicine, and a 2006 case report publication on adrenocortical oncocytoma
Achievements and Awards: USMLE top 8% of country
Outside of Medicine: Christian has competed competitively in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and mixed martial arts, enjoys salsa dancing, biking, skiing, water skiing and cooking

Medical School: Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine; Midwest regional representative of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine’s Resident’s Student Association. Served as a research coordinator for “Evaluation of the Clinical Utility of Troponin Assay in Chest Pain Patients Presenting to the Emergency Department". Participated in two month-long missions to Guatemala
Outside of Medicine: Dan enjoys skiing, snowmobiling, reading, and international travel

Channon JoEllen Channon, M.D.
Hometown: Chicago, IL
Undergraduate: University of Illinois
Life before Medical School: Prior to medical school, Dr. Channon split her time between the business sector of the healthcare world and improvisational comedy (founding member DeBono Comedy Improvisational Troupe). She worked as an EMT, market pharmaceutical representative, SMG custom project manager, and Northwestern Memorial Hospital business development and strategy manager.
Medical School: University of Illinois at Chicago; Volunteer works includes student tutor, mobile health bus for the homeless, four year steering committee member for student run clinic, and treasurer of the UIC photography group
Achievements and Awards: Top 10% of her class, Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, Gold Humanism Honor Society, and her test taking skills (USMLE) put her in the top 2% of the country
Outside of Medicine: Along with photography and improvisation, JoEllen enjoys creative writing, hiking, cooking, traveling, and spending time with her family
Gromis Dan Gromis, M.D.
Hometown: Fresno, CA
Undergraduate: University of California at Irvine; While there he was a master science tutor, captain of the varsity rowing team, and worked as an ED technician. Also, he became involved with the Flying Samaritans which operates a free medical clinic in El Testerazo, Mexico. He was also a research assistant for the ABSCESS Trial (ED bedside ultrasound cellulitis vs. abscess)
Medical School: University of California at Irvine; Served as student body president and was selected for the Gold Humanism Honor Society. He continued his work with the Flying Samaritans and was a founder and director of a new clinic built in Valle Redondo, Mexico. He also still found time to tutor other students, volunteer at the medical student clinic, and produce a publication in the Western Journal of Emergency Medicine in 2008
Outside of Medicine: Dan enjoys photography, guitar, rock climbing, surfing, cycling, and golf
Hinton Mark Hinton, M.D.
Hometown: Chicago, IL
Undergraduate: Marquette University; Captain of the University Club Lacrosse team, defrayed college costs working as a radiology department assistant and a physiology department research assistant, and was a Rehabilitation Institute volunteer
Life before Medical School: Mark received a Masters of Science at Rosalind Franklin University Medical School
Medical School: Rush University; While in school, Mark co-founded an after school program with fellow medical students mentoring inner city youths at a Salvation Army post close to Rush. He also was a research assistant in the Departments of Physiology, Biophysics, and Otolaryngology which led to a poster presentation and a 2007 publication in Circulation Research. Mark also volunteered on the medical mobile van for the homeless and worked as a volunteer translator.

Outside of Medicine: Along with lacrosse, Dr Hinton enjoys skiing, basketball, golf, reading and travel
Loughlin

Anna Loughlin, M.D.
Hometown: St. Louis, MO
Undergraduate: Ohio’s Miami University
Life before Medical School: After undergrad, Anna lived in Nepal and taught English as a second language. Next, Anna received a Masters in nursing at Vanderbilt and worked (ICU, ED, vascular surgery) and volunteered (Spanish speaking immigrant free clinic) as a nurse practitioner in the St. Louis area for 5 years
Medical School: University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine; While in medical school, she spent a summer volunteering at a HIV/Aids clinic in Honduras. She was also selected to be a member of the Independent Student Analysis Committee for the LCME {Liaison Committee on Medical Education) accreditation

Outside of Medicine: Dr Loughlin enjoys tennis, running, biking, skiing, cooking, cinema, and travel (Europe, Asia, Africa, Central and South America)

Lovett Shannon Lovett, M.D.
Hometown: Barrington, IL
Undergraduate: Emory University; spent a semester abroad in Scotland, was captain of the Emory women’s tennis team (2003 NCAA Division 3 National Champions)
Life before Medical School: Shannon worked as a research technician at the PepsiCo Gatorade Sports Science Institute which led to a publication in the Journal of Athletic Training, and also volunteered with Project Common Hope in Guatemala
Medical School: Loyola University; volunteer at the free clinic, treasurer of the Emergency Medicine Interest Group, and President of the TarWars educational program. She also volunteered at an orphanage in Miacatlan, Mexico
Outside of Medicine: In addition to tennis, Shannon enjoys marathon running, triathlons, piano, cooking and traveling
Menon

Vijay Menon, M.D.
Hometown: Born in India, Vijay was raised in the Chicagoland area
Undergraduate: University of Oklahoma, where he spent a semester studying in the Netherlands, and was the captain of the college ultimate frisbee team (earning All- Region honors)
Medical School: University of Illinois at Chicago; local director of the International Federation of Medical Students Association, volunteered at the student run clinic, and in Zambia
Outside of Medicine: Vijay continues to enjoy ultimate frisbee and is the co-captain on a Chicago elite club team. He also enjoys hiking, camping, travel and reading.

Nelson Dan Nelson, D.O.
Hometown: Chicago, IL
Undergraduate: Illinois Wesleyan University; graduating Cum Laude and selected as a member of the Beta Beta Beta Biology Honor Society, supplementing his income working as a pool manager/swimming coach, was a classic rock radio DJ, and volunteered at two different hospitals
Medical School: Des Moines Osteopathic Medical School; vice president of the Emergency Medicine Interest Group, a student ambassador, physical diagnosis teaching assistant, student interviewer, first year medical school tutor
Achievements and Awards: top 10% of class, USMLE top 15% in the country
Outside of Medicine: Dan has been a competitive swimmer since the age 10 and also enjoys backcountry skiing, ultimate frisbee, and frisbee golf

Riccardi

Danielle Riccardi, M.D.
Hometown: Long Island, NY
Undergraduate: Boston College
Life before Medical School: In the year between college and medical school, Danielle worked as an academic associate for research in the emergency department of North Shore University Hospital. This led to 5 peer reviewed abstracts and 2 publications in patient satisfaction, disaster preparedness, and pediatric procedures.
Medical School: Loyola University School of Medicine; served as Vice President of the EM Interest Group, as well as volunteering locally, in Louisiana after hurricane Katrina, and medical mission work in Mexico and Peru
Achievements and Awards: top 10% of her class, USMLE top 1% of the country, Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society
Outside of Medicine: Danielle enjoys fitness/weight lifting, cardio kick-boxing, Italian cooking and photography

Sinnott

Jessica Sinnott, M.D.
Hometown: Chicago, IL
Undergraduate: Lawrence University in Appleton, WI
Medical School: Rush University; Through Rush and her Orchard Valley Community Church group, she has been involved in extensive leadership and extracurricular volunteer activities. These include serving on the Pilsen Homeless Services Steering Committee, a mobile medical outreach van, and mission trips to Missouri, Alabama, El Salvador and Uganda
Achievements and Awards: Top 10% of class, AOA Honor Society, USMLE 1% in country, Gold Humanism Honor Society
Outside of Medicine: Dr Sinnott is fluent in Spanish, is an accomplished musician (cello and base guitar) and is completed two half marathons and several 5k races while in medical school
