The following outlines the benefits for residents enrolled the in the Christ Medical Center Emergency Medicine Residency Program:
Salary
Annual salaries for the 2009-2010 academic year:
PGY1:
$45,217
PGY2:
$47,380
PGY3: $49,451
Internal Moonlighting
Residents are given the opportunity to internally moonlight in the emergency department. Scheduling is voluntary and begins intern year. Compensation for each 12 hour shift is $500 for PGY1 residents and $700 for PGY2 and PGY3 residents.
Educational Stipend
$2200 is provided for educational resources and materials. The fund may be used at each resident's discretion.
Conference funding
The Department pays full expenses for any conference (national or regional) in which the resident presents (research, paper, poster).
Electives
Residents complete three elective months as part of the curriculum. Elective choices are resident driven. Possibilities include Dive Medicine, Radiology, and others.
Experience Abroad
Residents are encouraged to complete rotations abroad. In the past, residents have completed both required off service rotations and electives in locations such as Cuba, Australia, and Turkey.
Certifications
ACLS, PALS, ATLS are completed as part of the curriculum. Funding is provided for each resident from the educational stipend.
National Organizations
SAEM and AAEM membership is provided for each resident.
Journals
Free subscriptions to The Journal of Emergency Medicine and Academic Emergency Medicine.
Vacation
PGY-1 4 weeks
PGY-2 4 weeks (+ 1 week for conference)
PGY-3 4 weeks (+ 1 week for conference)
Food and Beverage stipend
Residents are given a $7 food and beverage stipend for each Emergency Department shift (and for each in-house overnight call)

Health Care Coverage/Dental Care Coverage
Available under the terms and conditions of the Advocate Corporation Health Care Plan.
Professional Liability Insurance
Provided subject to and in accordance with the hospitals Master Self Insurance Programs.
Disability Benefits
Provided in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Advocate Corporation Disability Income Protection Plan (includes maternity leave).
Tax Deferred Annuities
Available upon request.
Parking
Free parking in a designated area.
On-Call Lodging
Provided while on-call at night.
Life Insurance
Provided under the terms and conditions of the Advocate Corporation Survivors Protection Plan.
Bereavement Pay
Provided for when housestaff officer attends funeral of an immediate family member as specified by Advocate policy.
Travel Accident Insurance
Provided without charge to housestaff officer in conformance with Advocate Corporation Benefit Program.
Lab Coats
Up to two lab coats are provided per year.
Special Assistance
Provided when appropriate and requested in licensure, housing matters, placement matters, and application for specialty board requirements.
Armed Services Reserve Duty Leave
Leave of two weeks with pay in addition to other approved leave.
Tuition Reimbursement
Available subject to eligibility and approval.
